How to drive out of a skid

In light of the weather we are seeing, we thought we would post this in case anybody forgets:

How to steer out of a skid:

  • Take your foot off the accelerator and the brake.
  • Steer GENTLY in the direction you want the car to go.
  • As you begin to regain control of the car, GENTLY apply the brakes or the accelerator depending on the type of skid. This will help redistribute the weight of the car to the appropriate wheels, which will help regain some traction.

Please do not apply the brakes or accelerate until your wheels have regained some traction. Keep in mind that recovering from a skid doesn’t matter whether you have front wheel drive or rear wheel drive, the method is the same (many cars are front wheel drive and trucks are rear wheel drive).
